Fibers

About Fibers

Fibers are carbohydrates used by the body differently than other carbs. They are not broken down into sugar but instead pass through the digestive system and the body. Therefore fiber has many beneficial uses in the body.

Since it is not broken down, fiber can make us feel full longer. It also helps to keep our sugar from spiking while still providing us with needed carbohydrates.

Fibers help aid in digestion. It moves through our digestive system fighting constipation and promoting regularity. Fiber also helps protect the body from high cholesterol levels as it reduces its absorption.

Overall, fibers can protect the heart. They help prevent increases in blood glucose as well as increases in cholesterol. Many people do not eat healthy foods that contain adequate levels of valuable fibers. Therefore supplementing a diet with fiber can aid weight management, support digestion, and help prevent heart disease and diabetes.
