View full detailsAbout DHA
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a type of fatty acid that can be found in cold water fish such as tuna, halibut, salmon, cod liver, mackerel, and herring. DHA is extremely important for brain development in babies and children and is added to baby formula. This is because it is found naturally in breast milk. DHA has also been used and found helpful in type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, ADHD, and dementia.
DHA is also known for its ability to help with vision problems and to reduce the chances of age-related macular degeneration. Some people take DHA to reduce the incidence and severity of depression and to reduce aggressive behavior in stressful situations. DHA is commonly used with a EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)to help with heart disease, stabilizing heart rhythm, asthma, PMS, hay fever, lung disease, and some kidney diseases. Used together DHA and EPA can also help reduce high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Some teenagers use DHA to help reduce the incidence and severity of their migraine headaches.
