Thorne Research's 5-MTHF features the active form of folic acid. For proper absorption and function within the body, folic acid must be converted into its most basic and active form. This is the multi-step process and generally occurs in the liver and intestines.

When intestinal or liver dysfunctions exist, this can cause problems with converting the much needed folic acid which in turn then doesn?t supply sufficient amounts to the body. This health supplement is ideal for people who may have a genetic enzyme defect which may prove more difficult for them to convert folic acid into the 5MTHF form.

An individual taking methotrexate for psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a supplement containing folate.
