Sunwarrior was founded by Denley Fowlke and Nick Stern after the pair met at the 2007 Raw Food Festival in Sedona, Arizona. Fowlke had experienced several health scares with his own health as well as his daughters' which eventually led him to a raw vegan lifestyle. Stern wanted to fill the gap in sports nutrition products for vegetarians and vegans.

Together, Fowlke and Stern founded Sunwarrior with the intention of developing a line of clean vegan protein powders that tasted great and provided a complete amino acid profile, which was often lacking in other vegan protein powders.
