It is a member of the carotenoid family and is a potent antioxidant because it is a lipophilic molecule that has 11 conjugated double bonds. These double bonds play an active role in neutralizing the harmful chain reactions that are caused by free radical molecules. The lycopene in Pure Encapsulations' Lycopene 20 mg is derived from tomato concentrate and is a good alternative source of lycopene for people who don’t like tomato-based foods.
