View full detailsAbout CoQ10
CoQ10 or Coenzyme Q10 is a molecule produced naturally in the body. Specifically, it is in the mitochondria, also known as the powerhouse of the cells in our body. The mitochondria help to turn the food we eat into energy so the body can use it. This link has led to CoQ10’s use as a supplement to support energy.
CoQ10 is also an endogenous antioxidant, which comes from within and naturally protects the cells from damage. Antioxidants scavenge free radicals that can damage cells and functions of the body when certain foods are processed, or the body gets exposed to external toxins.
As we age, our CoQ10 levels naturally decrease, which leads to a possible lack of energy or protection against the aging caused by cell damage. Other factors such as smoking or heart attacks can also decrease our CoQ10 levels to the point that supplementation may also be necessary.
