This led to the founding of Banyan Trading Company in 1996. Scott and Kevin had the ambition of creating only certified organic herbs and products. They later renamed Banyan Trading Company to Banyan Botanicals.
From their humble beginnings, Banyan Botanicals began with 9 formulas and 9 employees to now offering over 40 products.
In 2002, Ayurvedic herbalist Sebastian Pole contacted Scott and Kevin. The trio established a partnership to offer certified organic herbs that were sustainably sourced and fairly traded to the Western market, such as the United States. Sebastian’s company, Pukka Herbs had been cultivating Ayurvedic herbs in farms in India and Sri Lanka that were certified as USDA Organic by the Soil Association.
Since 2000, Banyan Botanicals have sold their products online and in 2003, Banyan Botanicals moved into a USDA Certified Organic facility. In 2004, Banyan Botanicals introduced their first line of USDA certified organic Ayurvedic massage and herbal oils.
Scott and Kevin also partnered with Ben Heron, founder of the Indian-based herb company, Biolaya Organics. Ben worked on finding ways to cultivate endangered herbs and his efforts eventually led to a sustainable, cultivated supply of CITES certified Kutki.
In 2008, Scott and Kevin traveled to the Great Himalayan National Forest to search for endangered Ayurvedic herbs.
Banyan Botanicals opened their customer service center in Ashland Oregon in 2005, led by Kevin and a team of marketing and customer service professionals.
